Note from the Chairman: Looking at the Past, Now and The Future, and Your Role in it!
On the 6th of December 2025, we broke ground for the construction of a professional volleyball court at our playing grounds in Nyayo Highrise Estate. We were able to do this thanks to the Tujiamini Initiative by Sportpesa, an initiative that supports local talent in different sporting disciplines. This event marked a turning point in our journey of transformation as the Highrise Kenya Volleyball Community (HKVC).
Our journey started in 2018. At the time, we had a simple goal, to engage the youth constructively through the game of volleyball. Over the years, we have built a community of sports lovers who care about the environment, and who have gone ahead to play competitively in the local, mtaa, tournaments, donating players to the top tier leagues as well as international clubs in the process. We have become not only a hub for talent identification and nurturing, but also a centre of excellence where life skills are instilled through mentorship, and where we expose and export talent beyond our community and Kenyan borders.
Over the years, we have run successful tournaments that bring together over 40 teams to compete over a period of two days for competitive prizes. THe with edition of this series of tournaments saw 30 male, 11 female, and 6 junior(boys and girls) teams participate. We are proud to have pioneered the incorporation of junior teams which has since been adopted in other tournaments around the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.
Besides training and participating in tournaments, we also carry out CSR activities within our community and beyond. These range from caring for the environment we live in by planting trees and carrying out regular clean-ups to children home visits and supporting the less fortunate in society. In 2024 we onboarded a junior team, boys and girls in primary and junior secondary schools; most of whom are from underprivileged families. While we train them how to play volleyball, we also mentor and nurture them to become responsible citizens, encouraging them to excel in academics and in life just as they do on the volleyball court.
We are proud to have contributed talent to teams that feature in the top tier league in the country. A growing list of players who have trained and played with us, members of our growing community now feature for teams like Kenya Prisons, league debutants Chema Volleyball Club, General Service Unit and the Kenya Defence Forces. We also have some featuring in international leagues abroad. We endeavor to continue transitioning talent as we build from the ground up, with our junior players all the way to the best the sport has to offer, both here in Kenya and abroad.

What started out on a dirt patch has grown to become a wholesome experience for our players and everyone in the community. Through the Tumaini Initiative facility, we have been able to build a court that will transform lives. Our team, over 60 members and growing, together with the over 300 who come to our grounds every tournament will benefit directly from a surface that is safe to play in and one that mimics what’s available in the professional scene. In essence we are giving our players not only the experience of a professional training and playing surface but also what it feels to grow and win in an environment that is supportive and safe.
On the 4th of January 2026, we completed the concrete work and the installation of a chain link around the court. It is right to say that we are about 90 percent in as far as the completion of our court is concerned. We hope to complete the project before the end of the first quarter, with the installation of the final layer of rubber to make the court playable. This phase requires resources and we are calling on you, our friends and growing network of supporters to be able to support us to finalize this project. We are grateful to the Tujiamini team and Sportpesa for the support thus far, and call on them to further support us to realize this dream so that we can launch even more careers and change lives, together.
As the year progresses, we will build on what we have done so far, on and off the pitch. We intend to host a series of tournaments, participate in even more and ultimately, host the 9th edition of our mega tournament series; it will be bigger than all the previous ones combined. Looking forward, we will do more. As our mantra goes, ‘Together We Rise’, we believe that we can achieve much more, if we work together. We continue to do our part in building the next generation of elite volleyballers right from the grassroots level all the way to the top. Will you join us?
